Retail Shop Manager

Ref #: 95
Location: Alderney, Channel Islands
Salary: Competitive
Sector: Retail
Type: Permanent

Do you want to work in a small town shop on an idyllic holiday island in the Channel? If yes, please read on.

My client owns a village shop with a Post Office and is looking for a person to manage the shop. Even though this is a small shop there is a chance for you to use your experience and initiative to recommend new products and update the shop.

The island has 2000 inhabitants and is 5km long. It is very peaceful with many opportunities for activities like sailing, and fishing, walking along stunning cliff paths, or relaxing on quiet beaches. It’s a place where people still leave their back doors open and let their children run free. Depending on the season you can travel to other Channel islands, to France or to the UK. There are currenly no covid cases on the island and life is normal with no restrictions.

  • Run a shop open Monday to Sunday 8am to 5pm. Approx. 40 hours per week but flexibility is needed and sometimes hours may go above this.

  • Manage one full-time employee and some seasonal staff.

  • The summer season is busy but winters are very quiet.

We are looking for someone

  • with experience managing a retail shop.

  • with a friendly and open personality.

  • ready to relocate permanently on a friendly, beautiful but isolated island.

  • able to make a long term commitment to the role.

  • with good English communication skills

  • Gross salary £26,000-£30,000 per annum

  • Accommodation can be provided as there is a 1 bedroom apartment. The exact amount of salary would depend if you want to take it.

  • Statutory holidays 28 days - including Public Holidays

  • This role may suit a couple as there could be the opportunity for one person to work part-time. However, please note there is only one full-time role and the other role may be seasonal and is not guaranteed.

  • Please note although travel is possible daily to and from the island, it would involve 2 trips by boat and air to arrive at an international airport.
