Civil Engineer - Roads and Drainage

We seek a Civil Engineer - Roads looking for an exciting role in a small, expanding UK based civil engineering consultancy. The company is a civil engineering consultancy, which is growing rapidly.

Location: Remote UK or Europe

The business is involved with design of all types of civil engineering infrastructure relating to highways and drainage, undertaking pre-planning reports such as flood risk assessments, to detailed design of highway and drainage networks. You will sometimes take the lead preparing planning reports such as Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies, working closely with clients to ensure projects are delivered to their expectations in terms of quality time and budget.

We are looking for;

  • 5 years’ + experience working within a consultancy office (or similar environment working with design and technical standards) in a highway and drainage design role.

  • very good knowledge of English

  • ability to work on projects of all sizes.

  • ability to check your own work at times and of others and 

  • a candidate who is open minded, has a can-do attitude and has experience carrying out the following key tasks;


  • Prepare compliant surface water and sustainable urban drainage strategy reports to support planning applications.

  • Prepare compliant flood risk assessment and utility assessment reports to support planning applications. 

  • Prepare compliant private and adoptable -  drainage and highway designs for technical approval and construction.

  • Contact and negotiate with UK government organisations e.g. Local Flood Authority, Highway Departments, Environment Agency, Internal Drainage Boards, Statutory Undertakers etc so you can obtain drainage and highway approvals.

  • Autocad and 3D drafting / modelling of highway and drainage projects

  • Attend design team meetings as necessary to support projects.

  • Obtain quotations, advice

  • Prepare fee proposals / tenders


Qualifications/ Software skills

  • Competent and highly efficient in the use of AutoCAD

  • Competent in the use of all Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Will ideally hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related subject

  • Site 3D / Causeway Flow experience would be advantageous

  • A member of the Institute of Civil Engineers would be advantageous
